Neutral Nursery Decor

Some people prefer to keep their baby's gender a surprise, but the baby's room needs to be ready at least a week before the baby comes home. So how would you design your baby's bedroom without knowing if it will be a boy or a girl? Your baby's bedroom will be the centre of its world – where it will rest and be nurtured. This is why it is important to make the room as attractive and comfortable as possible. Most parents design their baby’s room based on the its gender but not knowing whether you will arrive home with a baby boy or baby girl can make decorating a challenge – here are some practical ideas to welcome your baby with.

Choosing a colour palette to base the theme of the room on, is a good place to begin with decorating, especially when you are aiming for a neutral nursery. Experiment and combine textures and colours, while focusing on pastel colours. Yellow could make a good backdrop for a nursery as it is a sunny colour. Green is also a good colour for a baby room. You could also simply stick to white or cream and then add more colours later when the baby is born, such as some pink and purple ribbons and wall stickers around the room for girls or some blue and green for boys.

When you have chosen the colours, you can start focusing on the fabrics, which can add a lot of appeal into your decor. You might want to use colourful prints, gingham (a medium-weight balanced plain-woven fabric made from dyed cotton or cotton-blend yarn) or toile (a refined cotton or linen print usually monochrome with intricately detailed pattern) for the bedding and upholstered furniture that you may have.

It is important that you keep the transformations you might consider in the future in mind when you design your baby's room so that you leave enough space for adjustments as your baby grows in the coming months. Design the room in a way that gives you opportunities to modify the space with additional furniture or accessories as your baby grows up.

Dream Furniture has a wide selection of nursery furniture and bedding for your baby, in a wide selection of colours. Choosing a neutral colour for your baby's room is made a lot easier by Dream Furniture.
